GUIDELINES

[001.]    For my own sake, I won't be writing with minor writers (under the age of 18 specifically). As Nadeko is a minor herself, I am naturally okay with writing with characters who are under eighteen, but I prefer to maintain discretion when it comes to who I interact with online in any capacity. If you are a minor and I followed you first, it was 100% an accident, not an exception. Feel free to block me if something like that happens.  [002.]    Mature or difficult subject matter will occur on this account, and Twitter is not an easy place to utilize content warnings. I'll tell you now that my writing here contains themes of suicidal ideation, (metaphorical) suicide attempts, chronic self-hatred, and child neglect. Please use discretion when following.  [003.]    While mature subject matter may occur here and there, no degree of sexual content will be handled on this account. Please do not follow with such intentions.  [004.]    I am an adult. I prefer to handle any conflicts or disputes privately and with as little stress as possible. I'm usually receptive to concerns so please don't be afraid to reach out if something is going on and I will take you seriously. What I do not take seriously is the culture of call-out postings that seem to be so prevalent in MVRP. Unless someone is an active danger to others, I will not take posts of that type seriously. I'll probably ignore them. If you ever tag me in a call-out post I will bite your fucking head off.  [005.]   I block accounts that utilize AI. Don't piss me off.  [006.]    Genuinely though, I don't take any of this super seriously. You can talk to me about whatever, write with me about whatever. If you give me grace, I'll give you grace in return.

NADEKO SENGOKU

Timid, soft-spoken, and cute. Those are words that should absolutely never be used to describe Nadeko Sengoku.Born in a small town in Japan, Nadeko grew up knowing that she was “cute” first and foremost. Her parents doted on her, spoiling her with adorable dresses and accessories. Her lackluster grades in school were fine, because that’s probably the most she could do. She may not have spent a lot of time with her friends, but that was to be expected of such a bashful girl. Her bedroom closet, which she refused to allow anyone to peer into, was also something that never raised an eyebrow to anyone. Nadeko Sengoku hid behind a set of long bangs that covered her eyes, allowing her to remain passive to the world. As a child, Nadeko had one friend. A friend who had all but forced her way into her life: Tsukihi Araragi. She would often go to play at that girl’s house, although she mostly sat quietly in the background the whole time. But it was at Tsukihi’s house where she found her first love. She fell in love with that girl’s other brother: Koyomi Araragi. Although they hardly spoke, Nadeko shyly watched him, tailing him with her innocent puppy love. When she entered her second year of middle school, her life began to grow more tumultuous. Her entire class, except for her, fell victim to the “magic charms” being sold by a conman. Hatred. Bitterness. Jealousy. All of it was being spread by her classmates through “curses” set by those charms. Of course, it was no more than a conman’s ruse, and no curses had actually been spread. But the relationships of those in the class fractured and split apart as a result of that conman’s deceit. Nadeko, too, had become a victim of those charms. When she rejected a boy, he placed a curse on her. Her friend, who was jealous that the boy had asked her out in the first place, put another curse on her.Indeed, Nadeko Sengoku had been cursed twice. For most people, curses set by middle schoolers is something that could be shrugged off as an immature prank. But Nadeko was fraught with worry. She began to look up books on the occult in an attempt to rid herself of that curse. Those books lead her to the town’s shrine, where she began to kill snakes as a sacrifice to end the curse. As a result, Nadeko’s belief in the curse and earnest attempts to stop it are what caused it to manifest in reality. The marks of a serpent's scales began to coil around her entire body, squeezing her tightly and putting her in progressively more severe pain. Without proper intervention, the curse would eventually kill her. That’s when she again met Koyomi Araragi.Unlike her, Koyomi Araragi had an understanding of oddities such as the one she was afflicted with. And with the help of a specialist named Meme Oshino, he was able to proceed with the ritual that would truly rid her of her curse. Although the pain was excruciating and those present were put in severe danger when the serpents that bound her revealed themselves, she was freed from their curse in the end.And her infatuation with Koyomi Araragi only grew. From then on, her thoughts towards her class would amount mostly to depression and bitterness. Her teacher put the responsibility on her to “investigate” what happened with those charms, something she tried to avoid by hiding behind her bangs and stammering out “I don’t know anything” with an apology. This is how Nadeko usually handled her responsibilities. What others labeled as bashfulness was really her disinterest. As long as she remained passive, she could continue on like that.During this time, Nadeko Sengoku would begin to suffer seeing white snakes around her school. It was something she tried to brush off as mere tiredness or paranoia, but she could no longer excuse it as such when a serpent named “Kuchinawa-san” wrapped itself around her wrist and began to speak to her. Kuchinawa chastised her for killing so many snakes at the shrine previously, and instructed her to atone for her sins by finding his body. Nadeko reluctantly agreed, and although she alluded to her predicament on the phone with Koyomi, she ultimately decided to handle the situation on her own. After an unsuccessful attempt to find Kuchinawa’s body at the shrine during the night, she ended up spending the night at Koyomi’s house instead of going home. There, Tsukihi interrogated her about Nadeko’s feelings towards her brother, and informed Nadeko that Koyomi already had a girlfriend named Hitagi Senjougahara. Frustrated by Nadeko’s passive replies, Tsukihi cut off Nadeko’s bangs. With her bangs gone and deepest insecurities revealed, Nadeko ends up snapping at her teacher and her classmates when she goes back to school. She scolds them for shoving responsibility onto her, their petty disputes, and their inability to forgive. After kicking the teacher’s podium into the front row of desks, she flees from school. That day was the last time Nadeko Sengoku would ever formally attend middle school. After this, Kuchinawa goads her into returning to Koyomi’s house. There, she finds the talisman that is “Kuchinawa’s body”. Kuchinawa urges her to eat the talisman, offering to grant her wish of restoring her cut bangs and having her love for Koyomi be requited. Before she can do so, she is interrupted by Koyomi, who attempts to convince her not to swallow the talisman. After a dispute, Nadeko is overcome by her envy towards those who are closer to Koyomi than she is and swallows the talisman, becoming an oddity herself. A god with serpents for hair. After defeating Koyomi in battle, Nadeko flees to the shrine, where she realizes that Kuchinawa-san was more than a delusion. The serpent that she had been speaking to was a completely ordinary scrunchie used to tie hair. Something for her to place blame on. A way to mitigate responsibility. From there, Nadeko decides to submit completely to her negative emotions. She decides to kill Koyomi Araragi and the two closest to him, but is stopped by Hitagi Senjougahara. Hitagi asks Nadeko to wait until their graduation to kill anyone, to which Nadeko agrees. With limited time to spare, Hitagi hires the same conman who deceived her class: Deishuu Kaiki. He agrees to deceive Nadeko into giving up her godhood. Kaiki spends that winter biding his time, building his trust with the godly Nadeko through daily visitations. When the day comes that he attempts to finalize his plan to get her to give up her godhood, Nadeko reveals that she never trusted him in the first place, and attempts to kill him.Kaiki, however, stops her. He reveals a piece of information that he found while investigating her: the contents of her closet. Within her closet were piles of manga, written and drawn by Nadeko herself. Although she is humiliated that someone saw her work, Kaiki encourages her to follow her dreams instead of giving everything up for the sake of killing Koyomi. Kaiki’s genuine encouragement convinces Nadeko to “let him deceive her”, giving up her position as a god and returning to her normal life. From then on, Nadeko decided to be more open about her dream of becoming a manga artist. Although this lifted a burden from her shoulders, her parents disapproved and demanded she either return to school or find more practical work. Wanting to prove she can sustain herself as a manga artist, she collaborates with the oddity specialist Yotsugi Ononoki. Yotsugi teaches Nadeko how to create shikigami, heping Nadeko create four shikigami representing her past selves to share her workload with her. However, those shikigami represented Nadeko’s shallow perceptions of her past selves, and thus did not share her desire to become a manga artist so openly. The four shikigami run off, separating around the town. From there, Nadeko was able to collect her “four selves” that ran away. She apologizes for not properly respecting the desires of her past selves, and promises that she will continue chasing her dreams without trying to avoid her past, no matter how many regrets she has. After the shikigami are collected, Yotsugi informs Nadeko that her abilities have caught the eye of Izuko Gaen, a prolific oddity specialist. Izuko offers Nadeko a job as an oddity specialist, doing small jobs that could give her steady income while she continues to work at becoming a mangaka. From then on, Nadeko started to work hard at both being a manga artist and a specialist. Please look forward to Nadeko-sensei’s next work!

VERSES

  VERSE      —  Canon.
Nadeko’s original canon verse, where she is both a manga artist and an oddity specialist. She may be found trying to handle supernatural incidents, to varying degrees of success.

VERSE    —   Project Moon - A Former Distortion.
Nadeko Sengoku was born in the Nest of K corp, where she was loved as both a cute and pitiable girl by her two parents. She lived an average yet depressing childhood where she played the role of the 'cute daughter' for her parents to adore, always stifling her inner desires. It was during that time that she developed a rather obsessive crush on Koyomi Araragi, a boy she had only met a few times through her friendship with his sister. She used her supposed "love" for him as an escape mechanism for her dreary every day life.
When Nadeko entered middle school, her life gradually began to unravel. Her entire 7th grade class fell victim to the schemes of a conman named Deishuu Kaiki, who sold so-called "magic charms" to her peers. When Nadeko rejected a boy in her class, two of her peers used those charms to put a 'snake curse' her. First was the boy she rejected, and the second was her own friend who was jealous that Nadeko was confessed to. Nadeko took those curses to heart and seriously feared for her life. Her longstanding fear and feelings of isolation caused a reaction within the Light, and the curse was made real.
Although she came close to death, she was saved by Koyomi Araragi- who had apparently become adept in dealing with strange happenings in the City after contracting with a bloodfiend named Shinobu.
Her infatuation with him only escalated after that. She no longer had any friends in her class, and she could not rely on her parents with her troubles. If she wanted to be saved from her depression, her thoughts always returned to Koyomi Araragi. As her mind began to deteriorate, she began hallucinating that she was being followed by a "snake" around town. The snake, who she called "Kuchinawa", introduced itself as a God of the City, representative of the snakes she killed in her attempt at removing her previous curse. The snake played on her sense of guilt and asked her to 'repent' by finding his body. As he strung her along, he also encouraged Nadeko to vocalize the things that made her unhappy. This escalated when Nadeko finally blew up and shouted at all her classmates who had wronged her, creating a public spectacle that would deter her from showing her face in school ever again.
She was later encouraged by someone named Ougi Oshino to return to Koyomi Araragi's room if she wanted to find Kuchinawa's body. What she found was not the body of a snake, but a Talisman Relic that had been given to Koyomi by a woman named Izuko Gaen (The Green Network), who orchestrated Ougi's meeting with Nadeko. The goal was to have Nadeko consume the talisman, allowing Izuko to manufacture a God of the City when she had failed to previously.
Before Nadeko could properly interact with the talisman, she was interrupted by Koyomi Araragi, who urged her to step away from it. As she argued with him, she came to realize that "Kuchinawa" was not real, only something her imagination had conjured to avoid taking responsibility for her actions until the moment of her confrontation. Until Koyomi rejected her. When he finally did, all of her pretend-play surrounding him dropped and she hopelessly consumed the talisman.
Just as she did, she heard someone's voice. A gentle, warm-sounding voice. A voice that told her she's in the right, that she is the victim, that she doesn't have to worry anymore, that she can become happy like this.
And so Nadeko Sengoku distorted.
A distortion that is on it's way to becoming a God of the City. Thanks to Izuko Gaen's cunning, Nadeko's destructive distortion was isolated to a shrine in her hometown, where she could focus on her three most desired victims. Distorted Nadeko, "The Medusa", sought to kill three people: Koyomi Araragi, his girlfriend, and Shinobu. Given the great power of her distortion, she came close to killing Koyomi and Shinobu without exerting much effort. But Hitagi Senjougahara, Koyomi's girlfriend, was able to convince Nadeko to spare their lives for at least six months so they can experience their high school graduation. Nadeko laughed at this, but the profound honestly in Hitagi's words reduced her from a full distortion to a partial distortion, and she agreed to the deal.
Realizing that Nadeko is a distortion that can be reasoned with, Hitagi resourced help from the conman they had both once been victim to: Deishuu Kaiki.
Kaiki spent 100 days conversing with the partially distorted Nadeko with the intention of eventually fooling her into believing that Koyomi, Hitagi, and Shinobu all died in an accident during their six month waiting period. But when the day came for him to finish his con, Nadeko naturally had not fallen for it and attempted to kill him.
Still, he made one final attempt to fool her.
Rather than using her stupidity to swindle her, he focused on her heart instead. He reminded her of her dream to become a manga artist, something she cannot do if she remains a distortion or ascends to some abstract state of godhood.
For the first time in her life, someone actually understood Nadeko Sengoku. She experienced what it's like to be recognized by someone. To be praised in the areas she wants to be praised in. And... She realized that her life did not have to end at just fourteen years old.
"I'll allow you to fool me."
Thus, the Talisman Relic was secured, and Nadeko Sengoku lived on.
From then on, Nadeko dedicated her life to her dream of becoming a manga artist. She was often visited by an apprentice of Izuko Gaen, a girl who seemed her age named Yotsugi Ononoki. Nadeko often confided in Yotsugi about her anxieties surrounding her talent. One day, she expressed her desire to prove her talent to her parents before she graduates middle school, but agonizes over her inability to produce anything showing substantial artistic growth during such a limited timeframe. From there, Yotsugi gives Nadeko the idea to simply "multiply herself". That idea is what lead Nadeko to entering her own Fathoms of Ego, created from her anxieties about her present situation and her on-going self hatred. Yotsugi had lead her to believe that entering her Fathoms would be a simple thing that lets her invite her "selves" from her memories to do her work alongside her, but that was far from the truth. The projections of Nadeko's past selves rejected her outright and fled, leaving her to have to confront them one by one, lest her Fathoms spin out of control.Nadeko eventually clears her Fathoms, having made peace with her younger selves and promising to respect all of her dreams: both past and present. She returns with a sense of fulfillment, but teaching her a lesson apparently was not Yotsugi's goal. Rather, being able to report that Nadeko suggesfully navigated her own Fathoms allowed her to be put in Izuko Gaen's good graces, and she was willing to take Nadeko on as an "apprentice". Izuko would allow Nadeko to run small errands from her in exchange for money, thus allowing her to continue her dream of becoming a manga artist without compromising her future.Nadeko Sengoku is a 15 year old with a tumultuous, unbelievable past. Although she has had all kinds of terrifying encounters in the City, and was once terrifying herself, she is now the spitting image of an average adolescent.
